Mochi Tsuki (餅つき)

With 2020 coming to an end, the only thing left to celebrate is New Year! And In Japan, Oshogatsu (お正月/New Year) cannot be celebrated without Mochi Tsuki. Mochi means Rice cake while Tsuki (Tsuku) stands for making/pounding mochi!

When I went to Japan at the end of 2019 I was lucky enough to experience Mochi Tsuki for myself. Me and my friends stayed in a Capsule Hotel that offered to let guests join a Mochi Tsuki making event in which we not only got to pound mochi ourselves but also got to try it with different toppings and sake!

The following are a few pictures of my Mochi making experience!

If any of you have the chance to stay in Japan over New Year i recommend trying Mochi Tsuki for yourself 🙂 !

Happy New Year – 明けましておめでとうございます!
